Volvo takes three safety-modified trucks to next week’s ExCel event17 February 2015

Volvo Trucks will field three trucks and a team of product and sales engineers at the Construction Logistics and Cycle Safety Scheme (CLOCS) Progress, demonstration event at ExCel, London on Thursday 26 February 2015.

The event is aimed at operators looking to meet the requirements of the Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) or CLOCS schemes.

The three trucks – an FL 18-tonne 4x2 rigid, an FE low entry cab and an FM 8x4 tipper – have all been designed or modified to provide the driver with what Volvo describes as "optimum direct vision in the urban environment".

Many of the CLOCS standard type safety modifications on the three trucks displayed are available via the Volvo Dealer network for retrofit to existing vehicles.

By way of example, the Volvo FM 8x4 tipper has been modified for N3 type on-road operation by specification changes that improve direct and side vision, and provide protection for vulnerable road users.

Additions include front under run protection (FUPS), as well as cranked front steer axles, resulting in improved forward vision, thanks to an 80mm reduction in driving position, compared to the NG3 off-road equivalent truck (also yielding a higher payload). Nearside vision has also been improved by the addition of a lower window in the passenger door.

Meanwhile, a seven-inch display screen for the truck's CLOCS standard cameras has been integrated into the dash. CLOCS cameras, sensors and graphics for this truck were supplied via Roadcrew and the vehicle's sideguards were fitted by the bodybuilder.
