Volvo telematics recovers stolen truck within hours 09 February 2011

Volvo Trucks' Dynafleet web-based transport information system has scored a hit in Brazil, helping local police to recover a stolen truck and its cargo, within hours of its theft.

The system tracked the Volvo truck online, immediately identifying every step taken by the thieves and linking with Google maps satellite view and GPRS positioning to steer the police to the buildings where the vehicle and cargo were hidden.

The vehicle was Volvo's VM-MD1 field test truck, operated by customer Sibra Transportes. Loaded with Peugeot car parts, it was hijacked in São Paulo at around 9pm on 11 January 2011.

The vehicle and cargo were quickly recovered and the police are now hoping to arrest the gang.
