Waste collection firm boosts profit by 10% with bin-weighing systems23 July 2018

Kent-based Equinox Recycling is reporting a 10% increase in profits since fitting its waste collection fleet with Enviroweigh bin-weighing technology, from Vehicle Weighing Solutions (VWS).

The systems are fitted to the fleet of vehicles, DAF chassis with Inco-Mol bodies. They certified for pay-by-weight services, are accurate to within 1kg, and can be calibrated and re-verified on site.

As well as the bin-weighing systems, Equinox has also implementing the PurGo solution from VWS sister company, VWS Software Solutions.

With PurGo, Equinox can run a paperless operation, with more efficient recording, data reporting and invoicing of collections.

“We’ve noticed a massive effect on the business, with both turnover and profit increasing by at least 10%,” says Andy Gibbons, managing director.

“Now we know the accurate weight of each collection, we can charge customers accordingly.”

He adds: “The combination of the bin-weighing systems and PurGo has transformed the business by enabling us to run a much more accurate operation.

“The drivers all have PDAs so we can track every vehicle and get live feedback from the crews. If there are any issues with a collection, such as no access or an over-filled bin, we can deal with it immediately. All the data and information is at our fingertips.”

In 2017, VWS became the first weighing company in the UK to be approved by the National Measurement and Regulation Office (NMRO) to verify its own bin weighing and underbody weighing equipment for pay-by-weight services.
