Webasto dashboard innovation will reduce driver workload 13 January 2012

Coach dashboards that have more than 50 buttons and indicators, often with more on the steering wheel, are not ideal places to concentrate on safe passenger transport, according to Webasto – which has come up with a solution.

The Webasto Touchtronic system, developed with Nav-Comm, is described as an intelligent 8in-wide touch screen control, which groups multiple function buttons into one logically arranged and easily-read grouping.

In this way, all systems related to requirements such as interior air conditioning, heating and fresh air control are integrated – resulting in intelligent climate control, programmed for each vehicle and driver preferences.

Also, because Touchtronic monitors temperature conditions throughout every part of a vehicle, it creates a 3D picture of the interior.

And the point, according to Webasto, is not only that the vehicle environment is improved, but also that Touchtronic reduces coach driver workload by taking control.

Similarly, in ambulances busy medics can press one button to automatically change or maintain the interior temperature, with the system compensating for changes as doors are opened, while also providing audible health and safety vehicle condition annunciations.
