Weight Angel measures vehicle load to 0.5% accuracy 09 July 2010

Weight Angel has now officially launched its award-winning commercial vehicle overload and load shift protection system in the UK, for vehicles from 1—7.5 tonnes, with an HGV version due later this year.

The world's only 100% internal electronic vehicle weighing system, it was designed to combat a rising trend in illegal vehicle overloading, according to David Carruthers, founder and CEO of Weight Angel.

He explains that the system involves a matrix of load sensors within "an intelligent sandwich resin lined floor" that replaces the standard vehicle floor. Information from the sensors is relayed via Bluetooth to a portable visual display housed in the cab, with traffic light or kg readings.

Carruthers says accuracy is to 0.5%, compared with 5—6% on external mechanical systems, and that it requires no recalibration after installation.

"In today's world, people regularly overload a vehicle without realising the potential consequences of their actions," comments Carruthers.

"Overloading a vehicle is not only illegal, which can render your insurance void in the case of an accident, but it also makes controlling a vehicle much more difficult, significantly increases fuel consumption, which is worse for the both the operator and the environment – and it causes excessive wear and tear to our roads."
