Wincanton reports telematics success on Marks & Spencer Home Delivery 06 May 2010

Having secured the contract for Marks and Spencer Home Delivery last year, Wincanton says it has been using Microlise's Fleet & Distribution system to manage delivery operations and meet service targets.

Wincanton rolled out Motorola handhelds running Microlise's Proof of Delivery software to their two-man Home Delivery operation and says that its drivers have been downloading and carrying out delivery schedules, supported by integrated Co-pilot 8 satnav.

At a customer's address, the driver scans delivered or collected items and asks the customer to sign for the delivery on the mobile data terminal.

Any delivery issues are captured as they occur and communicated to Wincanton's back office system in real-time using standard 'reason codes'. Similarly, vehicle inspections etc are also managed using the application.

Wincanton says that the benefits include increased real-time visibility, improved delivery accuracy, reduced paperwork management and reduced administration overhead.
