Wincanton sees clear benefit with vehicle camera technology08 January 2015

Wincanton is trialling Brigade's 360 degree camera technology on an 18-tonne mobile shredding vehicle, in a bid to improve safety and reduce accidents.

The vehicle, operated by Wincanton Records Management, is in operation in the City of London. It has been fitted with Brigade's Backeye 360 Select system, giving the driver a bird's-eye view around the vehicle, eliminating blind spots.

The camera monitor system gives a real-time surround view of the vehicle in a single image, meaning the driver doesn't have to check several mirrors or monitors.

Bob Chambers, national transport manager for WRM, says the system "allows the driver of the vehicle to literally see any obstructions or vulnerable road users anywhere around the vehicle".

He adds: "As we build up the shred mobile business in and around the City of London, this piece of safety hardware will prove invaluable in keeping a safe interface between our vehicle and vulnerable road users."

Backeye 360 Select has a standard dual-view mode, which shows a 360° bird's-eye view, and an individual camera view with option of right, left or rear side of the vehicle.

The software has been updated with the option of a full screen 360° bird's-eye view on a single image.
