Wrightbus vehicles score top marks for fuel performance at Millbrook24 October 2014

Bus manufacturer Wrightbus has topped three categories in this year's FirstGroup/Millbrook fuel economy trials (FMFET).

Wrightbus entered vehicles in each of the three Euro 6 categories. The StreetDeck Double Deck – which will be launched at next month's Euro Bus Expo – achieved 15% better fuel economy than its nearest rival.

In the midi category, a 10.8m StreetLite vehicle scored 6% better than the next best diesel bus competitor. And a Streetlite 11.5m bus (pictured) was the sole entrant in the full-size single deck category.

All three Wrightbus models tested had a Daimler OM934 engine and Voith Diwa.6 gearbox, with Micro Hybrid technology, which uses energy generated from the braking system to power pneumatic and electrical items.

The FMFET trials benchmark the relative fuel performance of vehicles from several manufacturers. Each vehicle completes identical simulated route cycles under test conditions.

All three vehicles now qualify for Low Carbon Emission Bus (LCEB) certification.
