ZF Celebrates centenary in Friedrichshafen, Germany 11 September 2015

ZF is celebrating its centenary in Friedrichshafen, Germany – having been founded as Zahnradfabrik GmbH on 9 September 1915 – and still focusing on innovative technologies and continuous improvement.

“Reliability and innovation represent the [core] values of our company and are the basis of our actions,” said ZF CEO Dr Stefan Sommer at a celebration event.

“Intelligently combining mechanics, electronics, and big data is decisive in developing adequate solutions for the mobility trends of the 21st century,” he continued.

“ZF is now very well positioned, as a system supplier, to be a global partner for automobile and commercial vehicle manufacturers. It has the capacity to be a one-stop shop for supplying the right products and technologies.”

Commenting on the predicted future of autonomous vehicles, he forecast that it will take “more than two decades” to become mainstream.

“Even if we devote all of our effort to developing the electric drive, ZF will also have to look closely at driveline hybridisation to increase efficiency [of vehicles] and further reduce emissions,” he added.

Sommer stated that ZF now intends to further bolster group-wide technology transfer from passenger cars to commercial vehicles and industrial technology.

“In view of our long-term strategy, we want to further expand the non-automotive segment to achieve greater diversification,” he argued.
