Adrian Wickens: 1952-201830 May 2018

Former Volvo Bus UK product planning manager Adrian Wickens, 65, died suddenly last week while on holiday.

Highly respected throughout the bus and coach industry, he spent four decades at Volvo Bus before his retirement in September 2015.

A mechanical engineering graduate from University College, London, he subsequently gained a masters degree in ergonomics. His career began at Park Royal Vehicles (then part of British Leyland), initially on the Titan bus project.

He remained with Leyland Bus until its acquisition by Volvo in 1988.

A key figure within the sector, he also headed the SMMT’s bus and coach section and chaired the bus group at the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership.

Nick Page, managing director of Volvo Bus UK, described him as “one of the most influential figures in UK bus and coach engineering”, adding: “We are all obviously very shocked and deeply saddened by this news, and our thoughts are with his family at this very difficult time.”
