A new all-electric fleet of buses has been introduced at Monks Cross Park and Ride, in North Yorkshire, with operator First Bus receiving a £566,000 grant from the DfT’s Green Bus fund towards its £1m investment.
Each vehicle – supplied by local manufacturer Optare – can cover 120 miles a day, thanks to the installation of rapid chargers located at the Park and Ride terminal.
Enrico Vassallo, CEO of Optare, says the latest order brings the total number of its electric buses in operation to 80.
"We anticipate the fleet at Monks Cross will also prove to be another example of electric vehicles delivering a commercially viable public transport solution," he says.
