Kent operator lucks out with Thompsons21 June 2016

Kent-based Mark Luck Transport has taken delivery of four more Thompsons-bodied eight-wheelers, bringing its total number of rigid tippers to 45.

Every truck chassis in Luck’s fleet now has a steel Thompsons Loadmaster body, with the latest additions all mounted on Volvo FMX chassis – three 8x4s and the fourth a Tridem, Two have day cabs; the other two are sleepers.

Company director Mark Luck says he’s long been a fan of Thompsons bodies, which deliver the best possible operating versatility for his business.

“For chassis, today we’re pretty much a Volvo fleet, because when you combine a Loadmaster with an FMX you really do have the ultimate in performance and rugged reliability,” he says.

“As for the individual specifications, the Tridem is our second such example – chiefly thanks to its greatly improved manoeuvrability, which is a real bonus when working in congested urban environments,” he continues.

“For our standard 8x4s, we spec some of them with sleeper cabs, mainly for drivers working on night jobs where there can be a lot of waiting prior to tipping.

“What we’re really doing is fine-tuning the fully proven Thompsons-Volvo formula to give us the optimum vehicle for any individual application.”

Mark Luck Transport provides a full range of tipper services to the building and construction industries, and has doubled its fleet size in the last 10 years.

Luck adds: “All our recent Volvos have auto boxes and 500bhp engines, making life that bit easier for the drivers while also giving us top-class performance.

“Attracting and retaining staff is very important, especially as there are lots of other tipper operators in our area.”
