MiX Telematics launches software as a service alternative 02 May 2014

Software as a service (SaaS) was the big deal at MiX Telematics'CV Show stand, with the company's MiX Fleet Manager getting its European debut.

The system features a new-generation onboard computer, developed from the firm's existing FM, but data is now relayed to DynaMiX, an all-new web reporting suite, which works 24/7 with everything from PCs to smartphones, but with data storage now on MiX Telematics' secure servers.

"The online software and reporting suite will be users' primary point of contact with MiX Fleet Manager, so this is naturally where we have focused a great deal of attention," explains MiX marketing and operations director Steve Coffin.

"DynaMiX has been with feedback from operators worldwide and provides what is arguably the most comprehensive mobile asset monitoring and reporting solution on the market today."

Coffin also makes the point that it's not just about the new online system – which means transport operators don't need to run the software on their own servers – but also consultancy services to maximise value from the data in cutting operational fleet costs and improving efficiency.

"To do this, we have a specialist in-house team with many years experience," he says. "They work in partnership with our customers to build fleet management solutions that are effective and fit-for-purpose."

Coffin also says that, while MiX Fleet Manager can be used with onboard equipment from accident recorders to safety cameras and dedicated sensors, the optional MiX Telematics RIBAS system is key to influencing driver behaviour.

RIBAS (Revving, Idling, Braking, Acceleration, Speeding) is the dashboard-mounted display that provides drivers with real-time traffic light status lights, reflecting their current driving style and its impact on fuel efficiency, and wear and tear.
