Pear Stairs steps up with first vehicles for in-house fleet 07 December 2015

Staircase manufacturer Pear Stairs has taken delivery of three DAF 7.5-tonne curtainsiders as the first step in its strategy to move from third party distributors to operating its own fleet.

The Welshpool-based business has chosen Enterprise Flex-E-Rent as its vehicle supplier, and the four rigids have been supplied on a four-year deal with 24/7 R&M support.

Enterprise has also supplied Pear Stairs with a Ford Transit van, to handle smaller local deliveries.

“We felt that running our own fleet of vehicles would give far better control and flexibility over our distribution plans, as well as greater economies,” says Pear’s transport manager Clive McNamee.

“Enterprise Flex-E-Rent looked at our operational requirements in detail and responded with a deal that was competitive on price... In addition, it is a distinct advantage that their local branch is conveniently located in nearby Shrewsbury for all servicing and support.”

A key reason for moving to an in-house fleet was to have bespoke livery to promote the brand, says the company. It commissioned designs from its parent company and Enterprise arrangement fitment at its Shrewbury workshop.
