WGM engineers 22% fuel saving with TomTom Telematics01 May 2015

Scottish engineering solutions business WGM Engineering Group is reporting fuel savings of 22% across its 90-strong van fleet after implementing TomTom Telematics’ fleet management platform 12 months ago.

Fuel efficiency has improved from 33.8 mpg to 36 mpg; idling time has dropped by 27%; and speeding time has been slashed by 90%, from an average 1% of driving time to only 0.1%.

The Webfleet platform is also boosting service levels, as the firm has real-time views of engineer locations, enabling it to make swift changes to schedules when necessary.

"We began to see results immediately," says Yvonne Thompson, WGM's head of HR.

"Drivers quickly realised the benefits for them, as well as for the company, in making use of the OptiDrive 360 reporting tool, which monitors driver behaviour recording incidents such as speeding, harsh braking and idling."

"We are now able to show both existing and prospective customers that we can track the exact arrival times on site and the length of stay. Such transparency is a powerful tool in reinforcing our commitment to customer service."

Webfleet also integrates with FleetCheck, WGM's vehicle maintenance software, enabling mileage for each vehicle to be updated to monitor service and maintenance.

"As a management information tool, the ease of use of the analytics and the ability to drill down and compare one vehicle trip to another, really helps us to define what is going on," adds Thompson.

"It provides factual information from an HR perspective, too… The whole experience with TomTom Telematics has been absolutely brilliant for us."
