Ashok Leyland launches Optare bus turnaround programme 20 August 2015

Ashok Leyland yesterday (19 August 2015) announced a further commitment to regenerating UK bus manufacturer Optare.

Optare's 'Customer focused business excellence programme' is said to involve a multi-million pound investment aimed at improving business capacity and the vehicle product portfolio, while also delivering manufacturing improvements and reinforcing the aftermarket support network.

Ashok Leyland senior vice president global bus Thyagarajan Venkataraman says this is a three-year programme, aimed at achieving business excellence.

He also says the "transformation programme" has already started and is building a lean and efficient organisation that "will deliver quality buses on time with the appropriate aftermarket support".

Says Venkataraman: "We have listened to the voice of loyal Optare customers and are delighted to support Optare's evolution and long term commitment to the bus industry."

And he adds: Ashok Leyland and Optare's new management team have aspirations for Optare to become our global centre of excellence for buses."
