ScS sofas takes 10 more Mercedes-Benz Ategos 02 June 2010

Sofa specialist ScS has bought 10 new 7.5-tonne Atego 816s fitted with GRP boxes, built to its specification by Dependable Bodies, of Gateshead.

The retailer's all-Mercedes-Benz fleet now extends to 55 vehicles – all 7.5-tonners, apart from three Sprinter vans.

Jeff Ritchie, fleet supervisor for the Sunderland-based firm, says that its new trucks, supplied by North East dealer Bell Truck and Van, are now based at nine regional warehouses across the UK.

"Although we're very happy with Mercedes-Benz, we also wanted to test the market. So we drew up a shortlist of three contenders, examined them all closely, and also sought feedback from our drivers," says Ritchie.

"Once we'd weighed up factors such as running costs, performance, reliability, driver appeal, dealer support and the obvious benefit of staying with a tried-and-trusted solution, the Atego emerged as a clear winner," he says.
