Stockport takes delivery of ultra low emission RCVs 18 May 2010

Solutions SK, which manages Stockport Council's refuse and recycling operations, has taken delivery of two ultra-low emissions RCVs (refuse collection vehicles) from TransLinc.

Both Mercedes-Benz Econic 2629LL 6x2s run Euro 5- and EEV-compliant diesel engines, and have been fitted with Faun bodies and Zoeller lifters.

The trucks were supplied by Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle dealer Enza, of Trafford Park, and the Econics are being provided on six-year contract hire with maintenance included.

Mark Rimmer, Solutions SK's recycling operations manager for environmental and fleet services, says: "We are always looking at ways in which we can reduce our carbon footprint and these new Mercedes vehicles are up to 33% cleaner in emissions than other similar vehicles on the fleet."

The vehicles are part of a major change at Stockport Council to move its recycling and refuse vehicle fleet over to wheeled bin collections.

The delivery brings the number of TransLinc commercial vehicles at Stockport Council to more than 230 provided over the last decade.
