DHL takes delivery of first of 700-vehicle order from Volvo18 September 2019

Contract logistics operator DHL Supply Chain has taken delivery of the first of a 700-strong order for Volvo vehicles, including 550 Volvo FH tractors – said to be the largest purchase of vehicles of this type in the UK.

The order is part of the operator’s £90 million upgrade of its UK fleet to meet the latest Euro VI Step D standard, with the vehicles also offering driver fuel efficiency aid packages and the latest I-See predictive cruise control technology.

Following a tender, says DHL, Volvo was chosen for product quality and its ability to deliver benefits throughout the lifespan of the vehicles, including dedicated account management, driver support and regular vehicle reviews to ensure maximum fuel efficiency continues to be delivered.

José Nava, CEO of DHL Supply Chain UKI, said the order is a key part of the company’s commitment to reduce logistics-related emissions to net zero by 2050.

He added: “Our partnership with Volvo will deliver significant added value to both our customers and our drivers, with the new vehicles improving our operational efficiency and reducing our carbon emissions as we support the development of our customers’ supply chains.”
