Driver training fleet boosted by new trucks at Scania 17 April 2013

Scania has extended and improved its UK commercial vehicle driver training service following the introduction of a new fleet of rigid and articulated trucks.

"As we see it, the traditional model of learning to drive in an old and probably outdated vehicle is no long valid in today's world," comments David Hickman, director of services development and service sales for Scania (Great Britain).

"Advances in technology are changing the way we drive: for example, automated gear selection systems, which help minimise fuel consumption by ensuring the correct gear is engaged at all times, are becoming far more common today," he continues.

"To help new drivers gain an appreciation of such systems, we have equipped our new fleet with the three-pedal version of Scania Opticruise, which requires the clutch to be used only while starting and stopping, and otherwise provides all the benefits of an automatic gear selection system."

Backed by its in-house team of Driving Standards Agency-registered instructors, tuition in the new vehicles is now available nationwide.

Scania is currently offering Category C, C+E and D (passenger carrying vehicle) training for £899 plus VAT.

In addition to a full range of licence acquisition services, Scania Driver Training also provides mechanical handling training courses.
