Edinburgh City Council cleans up with Mellor Orion buses04 January 2019

Edinburgh City Council has added 12 Mellor Orion low floor buses to its fleet, citing the vehicle’s safety features and emissions levels as reasons for the deal.

Pat Traynor, fleet manager at the council, says: “These vehicles are Euro VI compliant and feature 360-degree cameras for extra public safety and driver awareness. They also meet stringent nitrous oxide and particulate emissions targets for Scotland, and initial data collected shows an improvement in fuel consumption across the fleet.”

The Scottish government has committed to the introduction of low emission zones into Scotland’s four biggest cities by 2020.

The Orions are equipped with numerous safety features, including optional cyclist protection systems and hard disc recorders.

“Factor in the need to meet client expectations, such as low floor for easy access and service bus style design, and the result is a modern and more efficient fleet that will enable us to successfully meet the future challenges of delivering services in Scotland’s capital city,” adds Traynor (pictured with Lorna Miller, Mellor’s national sales manager).
