Director Peter Regan explains that its vehicle tracking system, by AGM Telematics, has a vehicle trip replay function, which enables management to review journey histories, right back to when the system was first installed.
“We installed the system about two years ago, mainly so we could track the whereabouts of each vehicle with greater accuracy,” he explains.
“We hadn’t anticipated this type of application but clearly it is a bonus... When the false claim was made, we were able to quickly resolve the situation by sending a PDF of the minute-by-minute time sheet to the insurance company,” he continues.
“No question, this saved a great deal of time and expense, which otherwise may have been spent in attempting to prove our innocence.”
Regan says that, beyond refuting fraud, the system has put paid to calling drivers on their mobiles.
“We can see where they are on the screen [so we can] call ahead with accurate ETAs, monitor any traffic snarl ups, and keep a record of exactly where and when our drivers are.”
And he adds that each coach can also be monitored for excessive idling, over revving and other driving issues in order to ensure fuel and maintenance efficiency and to help direct driver training.
Regan also says this latest attempted fraud is not the only one resolved by AGM’s telematics. In another case, a third party agent disputed punctuality and scheduling of an Expressway Coaches continental excursion and threatened to withhold payment.
Once again, the system was able to provide an immediate and detailed history of each coach, so the dispute was quickly resolved.
“Every stop, driver break and connecting journey between services and ferries was itemised and presented – with great satisfaction,” comments Regan.
