FTA reveals winners of 2014 LCRS Awards 22 May 2014

Winners of the 2014 Logistics Carbon Reduction Scheme (LCRS) Awards were announced yesterday (21 May 2014) at the FTA's Cutting Carbon, Cutting Costs conference – receiving their awards from the DfT's John Parkinson, director for motoring, freight and London.

Sainsbury's won the Best Fuel Efficient Operation Award, sponsored by Bridgestone.

Turners (Soham) took the Most Innovative Fleet Management Award, sponsored by Iveco.

DHL Supply Chain won the Best Use Of Alternative Low Carbon Fuels and Technologies Award, sponsored by Gasrec) – with Sainsbury's being highly commended.

Tesco took the Breakthrough in Modal Shift Award, sponsored by Intermodality.

DHL Supply Chain Consumer Life Sciences won the Leadership in Carbon Reduction Award, sponsored by PTV Group, with Tesco receiving a high commendation.

Rachael Dillon, FTA's Climate Change Policy Manager congratulated the 2014 winners: "Following the inaugural Awards last year, the 2014 entries have again exceeded our expectations," she said.

"Each company has demonstrated that carbon reduction can be an integral part of a business's freight operations. I hope that the winning entries from LCRS members, and also those that were highly commended, will encourage others to join this voluntary initiative and to reduce emissions."

"Being an LCRS Awards winner in 2013 was a proud moment for Turners and was a catalyst to our collaborative working with BT and Dartt in producing our Drivers Intelligent Coaching app," comments Terry Skelton, fuel program manager at Turners (Soham).

"Winning the 2014 Most Innovative Fleet Management LCRS award validates the investments made and supports our continued drive to reduce carbon emissions."

"It is fantastic to have been recognised for the hard work we have done to take miles off the road and use alternative forms of transport," stated Steve Strachota, distribution director UK and ROI foir Tesco.

"We are very proud to have transferred more distribution to rail than any other retailer in the UK. It's not only good for the environment – it makes our business more efficient too."

The LCRS Awards celebrate the efforts of green leaders in the freight industry, and recognise the efforts of individual members of the FTA-led LCRS scheme for their work towards reducing carbon emissions from their freight activity.
