Fuso Canter investment for JB Landscape29 July 2011

The latest arrival at JB Landscape might be the company's third 3.5-tonne Fuso Canter, but it is the first from the company's Euro 5 range.

The Canter 3C13 was supplied the Sittingbourne-based firm by Mercedes-Benz dealer Sparshatts of Kent – the German manufacturer's UK network is also responsible for sales and support of the popular Japanese light truck range.

Powered by a 130bhp 3-litre engine, the new vehicle not only meets Euro 5 emissions limits but also the EEV standard.

"We make full use of the high towing capacity by using our Canters to pull trailers on which we carry big mowing machines, so it's an important plus," explains Steve Bartholomew, JB Landscape's co-owner.

In addition to its inherent strength and reliability, the Canter's all-round disc braking system was also very reassuring, reveals Bartholomew. "Driver and passenger welfare is always of paramount importance to us. So while it may be less important to others, braking performance has always been very high on our agenda," he says.

East-London specialist Tipmaster fitted the new vehicle with a composite tipping body and heavy duty rear light bar with galvanised light guards, as well as a tow bar and ball.

The Canter is now operating under contract to a social housing management company. It has replaced a vehicle by a rival manufacturer and lined up alongside JB Landscape's two other Canters, a Euro 4 model and another that is now eight years old but remains a willing and cost-effective asset.
