Gray & Adams unveils its home delivery contender 03 April 2013

Temperature-controlled semi-trailers and bodywork manufacturer Gray & Adams has responded to the growing home delivery sector by launching a purpose-designed small truck.

Based on a 3.5-tonne Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis, its first demonstrator is futuristic to reflect brand image but also practically aerodynamic.

The vehicle has been fitted with a dual-temperature GAH refrigeration unit and is capable of carrying 105 totes, since the wheelbox intrusion has been designed out.

As for the aerodynamics, there are wide radius cappings, while other innovations include high-gloss Kemlite floor skins, used externally as well as internally to help prevent debris accumulating beneath the vehicle.

And Gray & Adams has also taken steps to protect the vehicle from accident damage by fitting plastic, high impact-resistant rear light plates, proximity sensors and reversing cameras.

Gray & Adams managing director Steve Rose says it' about responding to market demand, stating that with a UK home delivery fleet of around 7,500, there is scope for some 1,500 new vehicles each year.

"Given continued growth in this segment, the market badly needs another volume-based manufacturer to guarantee future supply and ensure price competitiveness," states Rose.

"That's where we come in. Gray & Adams has a proven track record for working with its customers to develop high-quality temperature-controlled transport solutions tailored specifically to their operations."
