Guidance for operators performing multi-site deliveries27 March 2017

Road Transport Solutions is reminding operators that it offers a range of advice and guidance on safety and compliance, following a report from the Health and Safety Executive on the risks of multi-site deliveries.

The HSE report, ‘Multi-site delivery issues for heavy goods vehicles’, is the result of an investigation to examine whether carrying out multi-site deliveries exposed drivers to specific safety issues.

The report concludes that, while such deliveries do not necessarily introduce unique risks into the workplace, they do increase the frequency of exposure to hazards in typically high injury incidence activities such as working at height and manual handling.

Drivers, it adds, may also find themselves delivering to sites where risks are not adequately controlled.

HSE concludes that the wider utilisation of risk assessment, load planning, co-operation and clear communication between dutyholders could significantly reduce the risk of harm during multi-site deliveries.

Paisley-based Road Transport Solutions’ services include advice on load securing, help for operators called to a public inquiry, and audits of compliance and management controls as well as maintenance and inspection procedures.
