Highways firm boosts gritter fleet with Mercedes Arocs21 October 2019

Highways service provider Ringway Jacobs has taken delivery of eight new Mercedes-Benz Arocs gritters for its contract with Cheshire East Council.

Supplied by dealer Roanza Truck & Van, the vehicles are replacements for another marque. All have ClassicSpace S-cabs and bodywork by Econ Engineering.

Four are double-drive 2633 26-tonners with 10.7-litre engines producing 322bhp. The other four are 4x4 18-tonne 1824 AK variants, with high-torque, 7.7-litre engines producing 235bhp.

The Econ bodies are designed to spread de-icing dry rocksalt at a width of up to 12 metres. For snow clearance, Econ’s ‘E’ Plough has a power angling function which allows the operator to alter the direction in which the snow is ejected without having to make manual adjustments on the move.

The Arocs are also specified with Econ’s E-Drive route guidance technology, which operates the spreader automatically.

The trucks are equipped with recordable five-point camera systems, left-turn warning alarms, and nearside proximity sensors to protect vulnerable road users, as well as a reverse radar which supplements the standard-fit reverse alarm and camera.
