Johnsons cut driver risk and fuel consumption with GreenRoad 16 September 2013

West Midlands bus and coach operator Johnsons reckons it has saved tens of thousands of pounds in fuel, while also cutting the risk of road incidents, since deploying telematics across its fleet of 50 buses.

Since going live with GreenRoad, Johnsons has seen its nearly 80 drivers reduce the number of risky manoeuvres by 78%. At the end of 2012, before the drivers were given in-cab feedback, Johnsons had 25 higher risk drivers: now it has none.

"Our team of professional drivers is now much better at anticipating events," asserts Peter Johnson, managing director of Johnsons.

"As some of our routes involve country roads with tractors, this results in a smoother ride for passengers and reduced risk for the fleet. GreenRoad brings wellbeing to drivers and customers."

Since using GreenRoad, the bus fleet has also travelled 50,000 more miles than in the same period in 2012 yet used 11,000 litres less fuel.

The driver performance feedback from GreenRoad has been complemented by an incentive scheme that recognises improved driving, consistent driving, no incidents and the number of times a driver logs in to check their profile.
