Juratek confirms continued support for truck racing23 April 2014

Brake disc and pad supplier Juratek is continuing its support of truck racing team Team Oliver Racing, supplying its Scania P1150 truck with discs and pads for the 2014 season.

The two-axle race truck is powered by a 1,100bhp MAN in-line, six-cylinder diesel turbocharged and intercooled engine, delivering 5,000Nm of torque. Power is transmitted via a manual shift gearbox into a locked rear drive axle.

The truck can accelerate from 0-60mph faster than a Porsche 911 – but race rules only permit a maximum track speed of 100mph, controlled by a GPS tracking system.

However, the air brake system and braking components come under huge stress when slowing the 5,500kg truck on corners throughout the 20-minute race.

Making that work is about spraying each brake disc internally with a fine mist of water to keep it cool.
