Kwik Fit rolls out camera solution across 200-strong van fleet23 October 2015

Kwik Fit is fitting cameras across its 200-strong fleet of mobile vans, to prevent fraudulent insurance claims and to further boost fleet efficiency.

The company has already improved fuel performance by 15% in the last year across its fleet of 3.5-tonne Mercedes-Benz Sprinters and Renault Masters, after installing a telematics solution. Kwik Fit believes the cameras will also help with driver training, as well as improving their security.

So far, 40 vans have been equipped with the front, rear and cab-facing cameras: the remainder will be fitted by the end of this year.

Kwik Fit fleet operations director Simon Lucas says: “Our primary reason for installing the cameras is to reduce the company’s exposure to fraudulent insurance claims.

“Unfortunately, crash-for-cash scams are all too frequent. However, there is clear evidence that if vehicles are fitted with video recording cameras the risk reduces.”

In a further development, eight company cars driven by managers responsible for Kwik Fit Mobile are to be fitted with telematics devices over the coming weeks.

The company car driven by Lucas is the first to be equipped and he says: “Kwik Fit believes it is one of the first organisations to fit telematics to company cars at management level.”
