London bus operator pumped up by Volvo fuel efficiency01 July 2015

London bus operator RATP Dev London has taken delivery 20 Volvo B5LH parallel hybrid double-decker buses, with nine more due for delivery later this month.

The new 10.5m Euro 6 vehicles are built to Transport for London specification, and, compared to a conventional diesel, these hybrid buses deliver improved fuel efficiency and 39% less CO2 emissions.

"We undertook extensive market research before deciding which vehicles to purchase," says Richard Shillingford, engineering director for RATP Dev London.

"One of the biggest considerations in any vehicle procurement is fuel efficiency and we felt that Volvo's performance was what we were looking for."

Bodywork is the Wrightbus Eclipse Gemini 3 styling, and each vehicle carries up to 95 passengers.
