Non-compliant road fuel tankers – government statement23 December 2014

Around 130 road tankers that do not comply with ADR (International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road) are still in service on UK roads, but some operators will be allowed more time to withdraw them from operation.

In a written statement to parliament, transport minister Claire Perry (pictured) says that, following research from the Department of Transport delivered last week (18 December), the South African-built tankers – which have been incorrectly certified – will be able to continue in operation for several years if they were built after mid-2010.

About 100 have already been replaced, but 130 remain in UK fleets – 70 of these were built after mid-2010. The other 50 are to be withdrawn, as originally planned last year.
