O’connor Utilities expands feet with Renault Range Cs 20 October 2014

Manchester based O'Connor Utilities has taken delivery of the first of 17 Euro 6 Renault Range C trucks – a mix of replacements and additions to its 400-plus fleet, which includes 100 HGVs of which 30% are now Renault.

The new truck include 12 32-tonne 8x4 tipper grabs with Abba bodies and Palfinger Epsilon M125LC82 cranes; three 26-tonne 6x2s and two 18-tonne 4x2s, all with Proteus designed tipper hotboxes, built by Lancashire Tippers.

Reliability, engineering, price, cab size, payload and unladen weight, as well as previously favourable experiences with Renault Trucks were the key factors in O'Connor Utilities vehicle selection, according to Stephen Jackson, head of plant and transport,.

"We took some Renault Kerax in 2012 and were really impressed with them," says Jackson, who uses Renault aproved dealer JDS Trucks.

"In particular, they felt more rugged than the other trucks... We have been really happy with these vehicles, which is why we were very keen to bring the new Range Cs on board."

The new Range Cs will be used for utilities work across the UK for customers including Northern Power Grid, Scottish Power, Scottish and Southern Electric, Western Power Distribution, Electricity North West, Welsh Water, United Utilities, Wessex Water and Anglia Water.

They will be used for distributing aggregates, pipes, cable, fittings and recycling.
