Pailton launches ‘world first’ electric memory steering column25 November 2019

In what is claimed to be a world first for the bus market, Pailton Engineering has launched an electronic memory steering column.

Designed for on buses and coaches, the new product enables the steering wheel position to be adjusted automatically for individual drivers, and is controlled by a joystick or by Bluetooth connection.

The steering column was debuted at Busworld earlier this year. It records the optimal position for each driver, removing the need to manually adjust the steering when each driver starts a new shift.

“We’ve taken a premium car feature and made it available to bus manufacturers,” says Roger Brereton, head of sales at the Coventry-based business, adding that it has already received “a great response” from the bus industry.
