Paneltex builds for the future with apprentice programme23 March 2015

Commercial vehicle bodywork manufacturer Paneltex says it has injected “raw enthusiasm” and boosted performance in the business, since employing its first apprentice three years ago.

The company now has 14 apprentices within its 200-strong workforce at its main factory in Hull – one of four factories, but the main site for apprentices.

Investing in the new talent has, says group operations manager Howard Charlesworth, "certainly influenced the company's growth, by increasing output and efficiency".

Charlesworth, who is also an apprentice ambassador for Yorkshire and the Humber, adds: "The investment into apprentices has injected raw enthusiasm and improved performance within the business. Without doubt, the older, more experienced workers do take the younger employees under their wing, fostering a sense of community and willingness to learn."

Training is provided by Hull Training and Hull College, with the former shortlisting the potential candidates for recruitment.

The programme has been recognised by Hull City Council's regional growth fund 'Grow' department and GreenPortHull, with Paneltex receiving subsidies for the wages of its Level 3 advanced engineering apprentices.
