PCL switches from Scania to Renaults 30 September 2010

Chilled storage and distribution specialist PCL Transport has taken delivery of 70 Renault Premium 460.25, 6x2 and 4x2 tractor units, each fitted with the Optidriver gearbox.

In the conquest deal for Renault Trucks and Renault Trucks Chiltern, the new vehicles have now replaced the company's previously all Scania fleet.

Martin Pearson, operations director at PCL, says the Renaults offered the best value for money and impressed him most in terms of quality.

"Driver feedback so far has been very positive, with the comfortable and spacious cab proving popular," says Pearson. "The Optidriver gearbox gives a more comfortable drive, as well as reducing vehicle downtime."

And he adds: "We have also seen some fuel improvements, with the Renault Premiums delivering an [improvement in fuel economy] over the old Scania fleet."

The new vehicles are being used to transport fresh milk and cream to major multiples across the south east on behalf of Arla Foods.
