Reed Boardall picks the safe option with Volvo FH17 June 2015

Temperature-controlled distribution operator Reed Boardall Group has taken delivery of 50 Euro 6 Volvo FH tractors as part of its fleet upgrade programme.

Supplied by Crossroads Truck and Bus, the Boroughbridge-based frozen foods distributor's latest acquisitions have been specified with a host of safety features.

The FH4 tractors all have Volvo's active safety package, which includes a lane-keeping video system, to monitor road position and alert drivers if the vehicle is at risk of veering to either side. A radar system also checks blind spots when the driver is changing lanes.

Other safety technology includes a driver alert feature, to monitor signs of tiredness, and adaptive cruise control with emergency braking.

The new tractors will be working with Reed Boardall's fleet of 300 refrigerated semi-trailers, which includes 78 double-deck trailers – said to be the largest fleet of refrigerated double-deckers in the UK.

"It is vital that we continue to invest in renewing our fleet to ensure that our vehicles are modern and efficient, and also that they benefit from the latest advances in technology, such as these new safety features," says Keith Boardall, group chief executive.
