Road transport sector backs Vision Express campaign14 March 2018

The Road Haulage Association is backing a campaign by Vision Express for World Glaucoma Week, which sees a mobile eye-testing facility travelling around the UK.

Called the Vision Van, the vehicle is a new Actros 2548 tractor supplied by Mercedes-Benz dealer Sparshatts, hooked to a customised trailer, designed and built by Cartwright.

Experts believe there will be 1.28 million cases of glaucoma in the UK by 2050 and, says Vision Express, mobile screening plays an important role in prevention.

RHA chief executive Richard Burnett says: “Good eyesight is vital for any road user but for an HGV driver, their livelihood depends on it. Despite this, there are still far too many drivers who ignore any weakness in their vision, weakness that may well be because of glaucoma.

“Although easy to diagnose, many drivers are nervous of making the initial approach to an optician. The Vision Van will play a vital role in conveying the message that good eye health will actually prolong a driver’s working life.”

Dates and locations of the Vision Van’s journey can be found by clicking the link below. Vision Express is also offering a free eye test in any store before the end of April: download a voucher at the same link.
