Scottish operator tips Hyva for weight and performance03 September 2014

Scottish tipper operator Malcolm Construction has taken delivery of the first 12 of a 50-vehicle order of Scania trucks, complete with Hyva tipping equipment.

All but one of the vehicles ordered are Scania 8x4 P370 tippers, 29 with day cabs and 20 with sleepers.

These have all been specified with Hyva's lightweight Alpha FC137 tipping gear, with either a steel or aluminium body.

The other vehicle, a Scania 8x4 chassis, will be fitted with Hyva Titan hookloader bodywork.

Weight and performance were key factors in Malcom Group's decision, as fleet engineer Freddie McAllister explains.

"Hyva's latest Alpha FC137 gives us a lower weight than the previous model, yet the latest design is actually stronger. Unlike other lightweight tipping gears, the Hyva is a heavy-duty performer."

With an unladen weight of 12,200kgs, the lightest of the new tippers delivers an impressive payload despite the extra levels of specification that come with Euro 6.

Other vehicles in the order will go into operation over the next six months. Most are replacing older vehicles, but 10 are new additions.
