Smartphone walk around check app with a difference 20 March 2015

A smartphone-based driver’s walk around check app has been launched by Paragus under the brand name Checkedsafe.

According co-developer Gary Hawthorne, this is a truck safety check app with a difference – having been developed by an ex bus fleet operator (himself) and a solicitor.

"The back office is the brain of the system, and gives [operators] contemporaneous data and, from DVSA point of view, the full process of check, rectification and closure," states Hawthorne.

"We can also add FORS [Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme] specific templates, if required," he continues.

"And we firmly believe that it will not only keep operators fully compliant, but also save them money and release valuable time for other work."

Hawthorne says that development and testing of this first app took almost a full year, but that the firm is now also launching two further apps – an in-service defect app and an accident app.

"We are currently offering free trial periods as we are convinced that once operators have used it, they will buy it." And at £1.00 per week, he may well be right.
