Stagecoach, Iron Mountain and First Group take Greenroad honours 24 March 2014

Fifty seven Stagecoach drivers scored a perfect zero in GreenRoad's Fleet Elite competition last year, while Iron Mountain came in with the safest UK fleet and First Group achieved more than 800 Fleet Elite Drivers.

Andy Cozens, director of sales at GreenRoad, also reveals that more than 4,500 UK drivers achieved the firm's Fleet Elite status in 2013 – four times the number in 2012 – demonstrating that they are the safest drivers on the road.

Ninety-two drivers completed the year with a perfect zero, while 510 had a score of one, indicating an average of 0.1 risky manoeuvres per 10 hours of driving, he reports.

Fleet Elite status is awarded to GreenRoad drivers who maintain a GreenRoad Safety Score of five or less for year and log more than 500 GreenRoad driving hours. On average, only 5% of drivers achieve make the grade.

"Drivers wear their Fleet Elite badges with pride," says Cozens. "Each customer attributes its success to different factors, but common themes include incentive programmes and a commitment from management, drivers and unions to changing behaviour."

Iron Mountain now has the fleet with the highest proportion of Fleet Elite drivers, with 138 (nearly 40%) of its qualifying van and truck drivers in the UK and Ireland meeting the standard. Five drivers scored a perfect zero.

But the bus and coach fleet with the most outstanding results is Stagecoach, with nearly 3,000 drivers achieving Fleet Elite – nearly 14% of all Stagecoach drivers.
