Vehicle salvage and recycling business Synetiq is using nine DAF LF 12-tonne double deck recovery trucks from MV Commercial to improve the carbon footprint of its operations.

The recovery trucks have arrived with the Doncaster-headquartered company as part of a fleet renewal project, with the final two joining the fleet late in 2022.

Equipped with tilt and slide bodies and spec lifts, the vehicles are designed to transport three cars. They are being used to collect salvage vehicles for the insurance industry that are held at garages or policy holders’ addresses.

Joining a mixed fleet of 110 salvage recovery vehicles, ranging from 44 tonne artics to 3.5 tonne transit vans, the recovery units are expected to clock up more than 60,000 km per year.

Mike Griffiths, head of transport at Synetiq, said: “We needed to expand our fleet as part of the company’s growth strategy and these DAF trucks from MV Commercial are a great addition.

“They enable us to access areas of the UK that our 26 tonne vehicles can’t, such as parts of Wales and other remote locations that are difficult to reach. The new 12-tonne recovery trucks are really improving the effectiveness of our operations and driving our sustainability ambitions forward.

“If we have two collections in Aberystwyth or three in the Lake District, for example, we can now send one of these trucks instead of sending two or three separate vehicles.

The new trucks will be based at Synetiq’s depots – in Winsford, St. Albans, Gloucester and east London.
