Thamsesdown ups fleet efficiency with routeMaster 20 September 2016

Thamesdown Recycling, which specialises in secure document, data, and product destruction, says it has improved fleet efficiency since installing AGM’s routeMaster system.

“We operate vehicles, including articulated lorries, trucks with rear-mounted forklifts, plus skip loaders, roll-on-off hookloaders and lorries that can empty wheely-bins,” says Rob Baker, logistics manager for the Wiltshire-based operator.

But staying efficient with such a varied fleet is a challenge, he explains, particularly when collections can be requested at short notice while others are on regular schedules.

“We chose AGM routeMaster tracking after looking at a couple of different demos,” recalls Baker.

“This was the best system for us because of what it can do and for how easy it is to use,” he continues.

“Just by tracking and monitoring vehicles we’re able to keep an eye on the drivers’ downtime and alter the scheduling to allow for it. And if anybody’s running late or delayed at a collection, for example, we can simply swap the jobs around.”

Baker can also monitor aspects such as where trucks are in relation to roadworks or unexpected traffic issues, again helping him route vehicles as efficiently as possible.

And he points out that drivers looking for new premises can be assisted remotely by routeMaster tracking.

“We can talk drivers into a new site if they have trouble finding it, rather than have them waste time getting lost,” he says, explaining that the truck location is always visible to the traffic office.

“It all adds up to greatly improved overall efficiency and that benefits everyone, both us as a business and our customers.”
