Thompsons provides first two Volvo FMX tipper bodies 25 October 2010

Tipper body builder Thompsons was the company responsible for bodying two of the first of UK specification Volvo FMX construction tippers, for Volvo Trucks' demonstration fleet.

"The Volvo FMX is based on the regular FM platform, but modified to cope with the rigours of off-road construction and engineering projects," comments John Comer, product manager UK and Ireland, at Volvo Trucks.

"It's a Volvo specially designed for heavy construction duties – a truck that tackles heavy loads with ease, and shrugs off poor terrain and steep gradients," he adds.

Comer says Volvo Trucks chose Thompsons, because it was confident that the firm could build a tipper body "with the same attributes as our FMX chassis".

The Thompsons bodied FMX vehicles feature two well known body styles – Loadmaster-Lite and Multimaster – each with Thompsons' Autolift hydraulically operating tailgate, Covermaster electric front to back sheet system and Edbro tipping gear.

"It is a testimony to our company and products that Volvo has decided to opt for Thompsons bodywork on the FMX launch vehicles," comments Scott Burton, director at Thompsons.

The trucks are currently being shown and demonstrated to operators throughout the UK and Ireland.
