TNT's Sam Deane wins MAN Everywoman award 18 June 2012

In recognition of leading a team to excel in a way that contributes greatly to the company's success, Sam Deane, general manager of TNT Rotherham, has won the coveted MAN Everywoman in Transport & Logistics Awards' team leader of the year.

Often charged with turning around under-performing sites, Deane oversees three key locations and a team of 250 staff with a turnover of more than £24 million.

Judges were impressed at Deane's ability to apply effective leadership to turn around depots and her implementation of efficiency and quality improvement programmes.

They also noted that she used the principles of supply chain management to increase the utilisation of trucks, resulting in cost savings, an initiative currently being deployed nationally.

"I'm truly grateful; my team is everything to me," comments Deane.

"I've got a lot of colleagues at TNT who have been very inspirational to me. Lots of women who, like myself, have fought the fight to make people aware that it's OK for a woman to work in transport, and drive a wagon, and tell men what to do."
