TomTom launches OptiDrive 360 for trucks and buses 05 September 2016

TomTom Telematics has released its OptiDrive 360 eco-driving package, primarily for construction trucks, following the release of first findings from the four-year EU-funded ecoDriver project, which seeks to reduce CO2 emissions and fuel consumption.

The study suggests that its prototype eco-driving systems have achieved up to a 6% of the project’s 20% reduction in overall energy usage.

OptiDrive 360 is the first product made available as a direct result of the research, and is aimed at encouraging environmentally friendly driving through a user interface that helps trigger changes in driver behaviour.

Some OptiDrive 360 users have already reported fuel savings in excess of 20%, according to van der Leij, vice president of marketing at TomTom Telematics.

“When TomTom Telematics invested in the ecoDriver project we saw a huge opportunity in doing extensive research into eco-driving alongside partners from such a wide range of areas,” states Taco van der Leij, vice president of marketing at TomTom.

“Being involved has given us a unique position in the telematics industry, as it has helped us get under the skin of the subject of eco-driving and to learn from the others involved,” he continues.

“We have been able to feed this into our product development and OptiDrive 360 is the first result.”

OptiDrive 360 has been designed to help drivers adopt a responsible driving style, as well as providing useful analysis for fleet managers.

TomTom says the tool also helps reduce maintenance and insurance premiums, so contributing towards reducing the total costs of vehicle ownership.
