Translink expands fleet with four new Volvo coaches14 January 2019

Belfast-based operator Translink has taken delivery of four new Volvo vehicles – two integral Volvo B11R 9700s and two B11R JHV2 coaches – as the latest additions to its 1,400-strong fleet.

The B11R 9700s are tri-axle 13m coaches and will be used for international touring work to Europe; the B11R JHV2s are 12.57m two-axle vehicles and will be used for private hire, local tours and sports fixtures.

Both models are powered by Volvo’s D11K 430 six-cylinder, 10.8-litre Euro VI engine, rated at 424bhp.

All have 53 seats and come with onboard toilets.

A longstanding Volvo customer, Translink’s latest order follows the arrival of 23 B5TL buses in 2017 and 45 B5TL vehicles in 2014.

“Volvo was able to offer vehicles to meet our specifications,” confirms Kay Sharkey, Translink travel centre manager.

“As we already operate a sizeable number of Volvos in our fleet, we were already familiar with the build quality, dependability and impressive fuel economy. We also rely on the excellent service provided by our dealer, Dennisons, thoughout Northern Ireland.”

The new coaches will operate under Translink’s Ulsterbus Tours brand.
