Travellers Choice buys eight more Volvo coaches 27 March 2012

Travellers Choice, currently celebrating its 140th year of operation, has renewed its association with Volvo Bus, with the purchase of eight new B9R coaches with Jonckheere bodywork.

The Lancashire-based company bought its first Volvo coach back in 1977, and the latest purchase takes the number of Volvos in the Travellers Choice fleet to 80, which represents 90% of its total fleet.

"The B9R Jonckheere is perfect for our current requirements because it offers all the functionality we want on a two axle chassis," explains Travellers Choice managing director, John Shaw.

"In addition to our eight new Jonckheeres we're also getting a further three Volvo B9R Caetano Levante coaches for our National Express contracts, which takes the total number of Volvos recently purchased to 11."

The new coaches feature the Volvo Euro 5 D9 9.4-litre engine, capable of 380bhp. The engine has been matched to the proven 12-speed Volvo I-Shift fully automated mechanical gearbox.

The new coaches each feature 53 passenger seats with three point safety belts. They are also specified with TV monitors, CD/DVD player, sound system, air conditioning, toilet and drinks facilities.
