UKPIA sets new Safe Loading Pass standards 01 May 2015

UKPIA (the UK Petroleum Industry Association) has today (1 May 2015) launched a new Safe Loading Pass Scheme which will be managed by the FTA (Freight Transport Association).

The scheme, aimed at road fuel tankers, was established back in 1989, but has since seen several revisions, in line with technology, industry, vehicle and process developments.

It has now been revised again by a cross-industry team, comprising representatives of the UKPIA, the Tank Storage Association and the FTA.

"FTA is delighted at this important landmark in the development of the scheme, which will mean that standards in the sector are safeguarded and the transparency of the scheme enhanced," comments Sally Thornley, FTA's director of standards, audit and accreditation.

The Safe Loading Pass Scheme now includes a new web-based portal for registering inspections. It also provides a mechanism for loading terminals to query vehicles' passes electronically.
