Volvo B11R gives coach operator fuel for thought08 December 2014

Coach operator Cooper's Tourmaster has ordered its second Volvo B11R coach with Jonckheere bodywork, after a similar model "exceeded expectations" on fuel economy compared with the rest of its fleet.

The first Volvo B11R, with Plaxton bodywork, went into service earlier this year and has delivered 12 mpg or more, according to the operator.

The latest order – placed at the recent Euro Bus Expo event – has Jonckheere bodywork and features a D11K Euro 6 430bhp vertical rear-mounted engine, along with the 12-speed I-Shift gearbox.

It has been specified with 53 leather-trimmed seats, demountable toilet, fridge and two TV screens.

John Cooper, managing director of the Bedlington, Northumberland-based operator, says the B11R Plaxton "exceeded all of our expectations".

He adds: "We are achieving average fuel figures of more than 12 mpg, with the latest measurement coming in at an impressive 12.8 mpg."

He also says the Volvo Bus technicians are responsive and "second to none", saying: "It's just an exceptional service all round."
